One Step forward for Flash Content on the iPhone.

Posted in Flash, FlashLite, Mobiles, iPhone on January 15, 2008 by bloggerdeb

A new bookmarklet called iTransmogrify promises a solution for the problem with iPhone’s Safari browser where you can’t see embedded Flash – for example, if someone’s embedded a YouTube video in their blog. It also means you can’t use some Music 2.0 services which use Flash streaming to deliver music. Coded by a chap called Joe Maller, iTransmogrify basically converts embedded Flash content into native iPhone formats. He’s making it work with various sites and formats as he goes along, with users queuing up with requests on his own site. It’s certainly an impressive bit of development work, and shown off in the video above.

See the Video Demo and read More on the iTransmogrify website.

Posted in Microsoft, Mobiles, Windows Mobile on January 11, 2008 by bloggerdeb

Windows Mobile 7 will dramatically change the way we use mobile devices. It will emphasize the use of touch on the device, as well as motion gestures created by using the device. It is, absolutely, Microsoft’s effort to beat back the iPhone, and the iPhone is referenced several times in the document. Read the more than 3000 words article here

SkyeSpy – Audio Detect Technology

Posted in Mobiles, Tech Innovation on January 11, 2008 by bloggerdeb

Ever wondered if you could become a spy without using any spying gadget? Skyestream has created an application that will let you do so. All you need is a Nokia S60 3rd edition phone and a mobile application called SkyeSpy.

What does it do?

  • SkyeSpy is remote audio monitoring, detection and notification software for your S60v3 mobile device
  • SkyeSpy can be used as:

(1) an intruder detection and alarm system for the home and office,
(2) a remote baby monitor,
(3) a remote car alarm monitor, or
(4) a spy device to listen-in on any environment without anyone knowing!

  • SkyeSpy is installed on a mobile device that is used as the audio monitoring hardware
  • The SkyeSpy device is placed in an area where the audio/sound is to be monitored e.g. near a baby, in the home/office etc
  • SkyeSpy is ‘paired’ to ‘communicate’ with another mobile device or landline
  • When SkyeSpy detects an audio instance, it alerts the paired device with an SMS, MMS or even a CALL!

Forecasted by Region, Country and Version: Installed Base of Flash Lite Devices

Posted in FlashLite, Mobiles on January 11, 2008 by bloggerdeb

In a recent survey by Strategy Analytics. There was a pretty exhaustive analysis done for the Flash-enabled handsets. The summary of this report says “Adobe’s Flash Lite technology has taken off rapidly in the last 18 months. Cumulatively, over 301 million FL devices, of which over 90% are cellphones, have been shipped since 2003. The base continues to strengthen in Japan, but in 2008 we will see shipments of Flash Lite-enabled cellphones in the rest of the Asia Pacific region and Western Europe exceed shipments in Japan for the first time since the launch of Flash Lite. A further 1.4 billion FL-enabled phones are expected to be shipped globally over the next three years alone, at which point over 46% of phones shipped are likely to support Flash Lite. This report gives a global forecast of the market for Flash Lite-enabled phones with detailed analysis of 23 countries, and splits by Flash Lite version, air interface and network operator.” Since this forecast analysis document is pretty huge so here is PDF which has some helpful data extracted from the same report which gives a Forecast by Region, Country and Version for Installed Base of Flash Lite Devices.

Mobiles in 2008

Posted in Mobiles on January 10, 2008 by bloggerdeb

via unwiredview There should be well over 200 New mobile phones in 2008. That’s at least one new mobile phone model for every single working day.We already have indications that more then 100 new handsets will come from just 4 mobile players next year:

  • Samsung plans to launch at least 2 handsets per month, or at least 24 new phones next year (source: DigiTimes)
  • Nokia will have 30 new mobile phones in first half of 2008 (source: Reuters, via IntoMobile)
  • Asus will have 20-25 new handsets in 2008 (source Digitimes)
  • Motorola plans 30 new mobile phone models next year (source Digitimes)

(Unfortunately the original articles from both Reuters and Digitimes has disappeared behind the archives paywall and I’m not able to link directly to them. But I have made image clippings from most of them and can vouch for the accuracy of the reported figures)

So, that’s already over 100 new mobile phones promised from 3 major (Nokia, Samsung, Motorola) and one minor player (Asustek). And we did not even mention such biggies as Sony Ericsson, LG; major niche players like RIM Blackberry and HTC; or up’n’commmers like E-Ten, Gigabyte, BenQ Siemens, Pantech, etc.

So it is pretty safe predicting more than 200 mobile phones models for 2008.

iTunes movie rentals

Posted in Content, Tech Innovation on January 9, 2008 by bloggerdeb

Major motion picture studio Warner Bros, which was reported earlier this month to be mulling a deal with Apple to offer up its catalog for a new iTunes rental service, is now said to have inked a deal with the iTunes operator that will see its films available through the service at launch. Sounds amazing… I also wish this service can be extended for the mobile phones which support iTunes. The iPhone and iPods are an obvious count but there are other devices like the Razrs and the Rokrs from Motorola. It would be great to rent and watch movies on our personal lil’ gadgets. More

First glimpse inside Nokia S60 Touch. Going beyond Multi-Touch

Via Alessandro, I found some great great information about the upcoming Nokia S60 touch technology from patent filing. Since, the launch of Apple iPhone the phones with a touch has become a dream for any phone user. Apple had done his homework and had filed patents which seam to cover lots of Multi-Touch UI related things. But after reading this piece of information on unwiredview. I truly believe that Nokia is a champ.

I used to wait for sundays to watch this. :) and that song still gives me goose bumps by scrolling the pictures of yesteryears in front of my eyes. I hope you enjoy this guys
